Caylus is a strategic one Board game with extensive rules. A quick guide to the online game is given here. No claim is made that the rules are complete; rather, the operation should be made easier. You can download the original rule on the publisher's website.
As the king's builders, the players compete for the most prestige points. They obtain this primarily by expanding the castle and the adjacent town.
On the playing field you can see a path that winds from the castle (1) through the special buildings, over the bridge ( 4) and continues downwards through the neutral red buildings (5). Above the special buildings are the building sites for the three sections of the castle building. If you move the mouse over it, the scoring conditions for the individual sections are displayed.
All players are displayed in the upper right corner (3). The number in the field indicates the current playing position. Furthermore, the raw materials, the denarius and the (still) available workers are displayed there.
On the right in the river you can see the buildable building types: wooden, stone and prestige buildings. If you hover over it, the construction costs for a residential building (green) are displayed below as a reminder. By clicking on one of the building types, all of the buildings of that type that are still available will be displayed. If you stay with the mouse on one of the buildings, it will be displayed larger.
Clicking on the lily next to it shows the favor overview. There you can see which players have already advanced how far and with which favor. You can also see this in the left area of each player's player display.
The game is divided into individual rounds; Each round consists of seven phases.
Each player receives two denarii. In addition, there is one denarius per house.
Each player can have workers according to the order of play insert - always one in turn. To do this, the player whose turn it is clicks on the desired building or castle. Each placement on a building in the city costs one denarius. A player who no longer wants or cannot bet clicks on the bridge to exit the betting phase. The first player to do this receives a denarius as a gift. For each player who drops out, placement becomes more expensive for the remaining players by one denarius for each worker they subsequently place. You can always bet on your own buildings for one denarius.
< span>According to the order of the buildings in the city (following the path starting from the castle at the top left), the players now use the occupied buildings and their advantages. Some of the actions are carried out automatically (office, stables, tavern), others require an action from the player.
In the tournament selection window, the player can either let the tournament expire (on click the red cross) or he clicks in; Then the costs (a cloth, a denarius) are deducted and he receives the favor table in which he can now choose a favor.
< h4> Phase 4 - Moving the bailiffAfter the first six special buildings comes the bridge. Here the players, starting with the first player who dropped out, are allowed to move the bailiff. The Vogt may be moved forward or back a maximum of three spaces; each space costs one denarius. Players who do not want to move the Vogt click on the space that the Vogt currently occupies. You should note that the Vogt "sticks" to the mouse pointer. To avoid unwanted displacement, it is recommended to initially drag the mouse cursor to one of the upper corners of the playing field in order not to distort the position of the bailiff.
Similar to phase 3, the normal buildings are now activated, starting at the bridge. It should be noted that buildings that are behind the Vogt as seen from the castle are not activated.
If the bailiff remained sitting there in the example, the red player would be left empty-handed because the two buildings he occupied are no longer visited by the bailiff.
According to the order in which the affected players have placed workers at the castle, construction can be carried out in the castle.
The affected player receives a selection window in which you are reminded of the building costs: each building costs one food and two other different raw materials (e.g. food, stone, wood). In order to build the castle, the active player clicks in the selection window: another window appears in which he can select the two remaining raw materials (except food). He then clicks on the green arrow to start building. To build further sections (again with three raw materials), he repeats the process. In order not to build anything else, the player clicks on the red he can choose in a window at the end of the phase. If the number is the same, the person who was the first to place a worker in the castle gets the favor.
The game round then ends. If the bailiff now sits behind the seneschal (as seen from the castle), the latter moves two spaces away from the castle. If the bailiff sits in front of or next to the seneschal, the seneschal only moves one space further. The bailiff then joins the seneschal again. If he reaches one of the three evaluation fields, the billing of the corresponding construction phase of the castle will be initiated. If a section is completed beforehand, settlement will take place at the end of the round in which this happens. In any case, each stage is only settled once in the game.
The game ends when the third Castle section was settled. It doesn't matter whether this was triggered by the full expansion of the last section or the seneschal reaching the last settlement area.
Now the following prestige points are distributed: < /p>
The selection windows can generally be moved within the image with the right mouse button, to view covered areas. By clicking on the red to call up the building selection of this type. Once you have selected one of them, the selection disappears and the desired building is now displayed. If you make a mistake, you can correct the selection by clicking on the yellow arrow again. Once you have the building you want in the selection window, confirm the building with the green arrow at the top right of the window. The building is automatically placed on the next free building space.
You should always keep an eye on the order of evaluation. For example, it is pointless to put a worker on the tournament (unless you want to block it for your fellow players) if you don't have a cloth. Even if you have a worker on a farm, he will only be evaluated after the tournament. On the other hand, you can definitely sit in the castle and take into account the raw materials that you collect along the way. However, you should never lose sight of the Vogt. Since buildings are only rated up to the bailiff and no more beyond that, your fellow players can really thwart your plans in phase 4.
In a two-person game, the following rules apply, unlike the multi-person game:
